If you have a juicer, you have what is probably the most important kitchen tool that you’ll need in order to make antioxidant drink mixes. You won’t necessarily need a juicer for every antioxidant drink you make but one of the most antioxidant rich drinks you can make will indeed require a juicer.
That’s because the seed of the grape is one of the most antioxidant rich sources you can find. By juicing the entire grape, seed and all, you can make a delicious juice to drink alone or add to another juice. The skin of the grape is also full of antioxidants so you’re getting a glass full of antioxidants when you juice grapes.
But don’t stop there. You can make a strawberry milkshake or leave out the ice cream and make a strawberry smoothie. Throw in some oranges for more exciting antioxidant drink mix rich in vitamin C. Don’t forget the orange zest which you’ll get by grating a small amount of the orange peel.
Juice apples and grapes together for a yummy antioxidant drink that’s full of vitamins too. You can even make homemade juice pops for the kids. Send them outside with these and they’ll have no idea you’re looking out for their cellular health.
Kids and Antioxidants
Kids need antioxidants too. You can explain how it works to them when they’re old enough to understand and hope they carry on the good habits you’ve started but in the meantime you can fill them with antioxidant rich fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds and they’ll never know the difference.
One day you’ll be able to explain to them how important it is for them to keep up their antioxidant intake through antioxidant drinks and foods rich in this disease fighting necessity. They’ll be fascinated to learn about the war going on inside their little bodies between the free radicals and the antioxidants. They’ll love hearing in story form how the good guys, the antioxidants are beating up the bad guys, the free radicals who are trying to hurt their cells.
In the meantime, juice as many berries as you can and come up with your own antioxidant drink concoction. Let the kids name the new berry drink and make frozen berry pops. Since chocolate has antioxidants also, mom may even allow a chocolate shake in among those antioxidant drinks once in a while.
By using your imagination and your juicer you can keep you and your kids in antioxidant rich drinks all summer long!
